Alison Heryer is an interdisciplinary artist whose work combines textiles, performance, and social practice. She has exhibited work in theaters, galleries, screens, storefronts, and public spaces across the world. She loves thinking where clothing comes from, how it is made, and how it is used to construct identity.
She received a MFA in Costume and Scenic Design from the University of Texas at Austin and a BFA in Fashion Design/Studio Art from Washington University in St. Louis. She is a member of United Scenic Artists Local 829, Costume Society of America, and Textile Society of America.
Alison heads up the Textile Arts curriculum in the School or Art + Design at Portland State University, where she was recently granted the Sue Horn-Caskey & Charles F. Caskey Professorship of Textile Arts & Costume Design. Her research focuses on the development of sustainable and inclusive pedagogy to clothing the body for contexts in fashion, entertainment, and contemporary art.
